Windows 8 Secure Boot workaround bij een downgrade naar Windows 7.

Onderstaande is uitgevoerd op een HP Elite 7500 MT. De gebode oplossing werkte direct.

Unable to Boot from The CD/DVD Drive.
Following is the error message while installing Windows 7 Pro from the HP Quick Restore CD’s:
The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media.
Solution
To downgrade the Operating System from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 7 Pro, please follow the steps below :
CAUTION: You have to copy the Windows 8 Pro product ID before proceeding to format windows 8 Pro, the Product ID is required for Windows 7 Pro activation.
  1. To boot from CD/DVD drive, perform the steps mentioned below:
    • Restart the PC.
    • Press the ESC key during POST.
    • Press the F10 key to go to the Computer Setup (Optionally, user may press F10 from the Startup Menu).
    • Go to the Security menu then Secure Boot .
    • Confirm the message by pressing on F10 .
    • Set the first item Legacy Support to On .
    • Set the second item Secure Boot to Disabled .
    • Set the last item Fast Boot to Disabled , Validate F10 .
    • Go to the Storage menu then Boot Order .
    • Select UEFI Boot Sourcesand Press F5 to Disable it, Validate F10 .

        NOTE: Make sure the Legacy Boot Sources is enabled and the ATAPI CD/DVD Drive is the first one .
    • Go to the File menu then select Save Change and Exit .
    • Insert the first HP Quick Restore CD.
    • Enter the 4-digit code displayed on the screen then press Enter .
    • Press F9 to acess to the Boot menu then Select ATAPI CD/DVD Drive .
  2. To install Windows 7 Pro properly, user has to change the Build ID , perform the steps mentioned below :
    • Restart the PC.
    • Press the ESC key during POST.
    • Press the F10 key and go to Computer Setup (Optionally, user may press F10 from the Startup Menu).
    • Go to the Security menu then System IDs .
    • In Build ID field insert the right character, to find it edit the 1st CD , the Build ID is located at \HP\MLS\BUILDID.INI copy it + #SABH#DABH.
      Let op! indien het build id greyed out is dient men eerst terug te keren na het hoofdmenu van de bios. Vervolgens druk de combinatie Ctrl+A.Probeer vervolgens nogmaals de bovenstaande stap te herhalen.
    • Go to the File menu then Save Change and Exit .
